How to connect an external HD 500GB (lacie) and/or external 2TB Media Player (Lacie LaCinema HD) to the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1.

If connecting the media player, the tab recognice an external device but can not acces on it.

- Not possible to play the movies or pictures (I am using MX Player - VLC pro)
- Not possible to access the maps/files directly via de file manager

If both devices are in the home network via de router, all works perfectly and indeed via Wifi I can play the media files on the tab.

It would be handy to have solution for eg. holidays so I don't need to copy and copy and copy ....

External drives, thumbdrives, keyboards, mice, etc all require to connect to a "Host" (OTG) USB connection, such as exist on PCs. The USB connection on tablets and phones are 'Slave' and direct connection cannot be made. There is, however, an adapter available to converts to the proper type of connection...

Amazon.com: SANOXY Black Female USB OTG Cable Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1/8.9/P7500/P7510: Computers & Accessories

I purchased one of these, and it works great connecting keyboard, mice, SD card readers, etc.

Remember, however, that the power to many of these devices is provided through the USB connection, and your external drive may draw more power than the tablet can provide. If you can alternatively power the drive from AC so the tablet is just using the data connection, it may work.

Thx for the suggestion.

Are you sure this will work also for external hard disk and/or 2TB external media player?
