How to connect to Microsoft Distributed File System?

GHeim

Lurker
At my work we use Microsoft Distributed File System (Microsoft DFS) for our filesystems, and I want to connect to it with my tablet. I have tried several Android file explorers but none is able to connect. Anyone knows how I can accomplish this?

These I tried: File expert, Astro, Andsmb, ES file explorer, samba explorer
I have: an ASUS transformer tablet with Android 3.2.1
At home, I can connect to my samba shares (hosted on a linux system).

Thanks

Hi GHeim,
I was having trouble with this on my TF101 also.

Here's the settings i had to use to get my DFS (2008) to work:

Example DFS UNC: \\domainname.net\

1) Install Astro and the Astro SMB module.
2) Open Astro, click on the Networks button (top right)
3) click New, choose type SMB
Label: DFSTest
Server: domainname.net
Share:
Domain:
Directory:
UserName: myusername@domainname.net
Password: myDomainAccountPassword
4)In the menu, go to Advanced Settings.
Set: jcifs.resolveOrder=DNS
5) Click the "back" button to get back to the screen in Step 3
6) Click the "test" button to test the connection. Click "Save" button.

Additionally, in locations where DFS is setup across multiple domain controllers, i've found that i have to specify a domain controller in the servername:

Example: \\domainname.net\share1
Where: DC01 is the hostname of a Windows Server with domain controller and DFS roles assigned.

Server: dc01.domainname.net
Share: /share1

I suggest choosing a DomainController in the same physical location as you, to increase response time; this will work in other phyiscal locations, but latency may be an issue if the pipe is slow back to the chosen server.
