How to control Google Browser SPEAKING

[Android Question]

MOTOROLA XT912.
Every time I open Google Search, no matter what I searched for, it answers a question I asked more than a month ago. It's stuck on it.
I would also like to be able to SILENCE it sometimes. Turning down the volume from the main screen does not silence the voice on Google Search.
How do I CHOOSE what I want it to do?
