Help How to diagnose lag

It's not terrible anymore..... rooted, running Ultimate Droid 2.4 (my first custom rom and I'm LOVING IT).

I still have some lag in between programs though - especially when first turning the screen on and unlocking.....

I don't have a task killer installed. Could it be beautiful widgets? I guess I don't really need it with the ROM I'm using anyway.

It could be BW, or if you're using LauncherPro, it could be that, or it could be a combination of things, including particular settings - like in BW, do you have the weather widget set to update on unlocking? that is a killer b/c it kicks in in milliseconds when you unlock, and I found it degraded unlock performance tremendously....

my second thought was that it was the launcher pro!!

I'll check my BW settings but I don't think it updates on unlock.

LP has been giving me fits recently, but the last 2 updates seem to make it a lot better than it used to be about a month ago. And I have my phone OC'd to 1200 MHz a the time....lol.

Oh, and if those two are not the culprit, post back - I just now experienced really heavy lag, so I swapped batteries and it is fine again....

So, if you're still getting it, and I am too, maybe we can work it out together (but I am on LFY not UD, though that should not make a huge difference).

well I just switched launchers and it immediately got WORSE lol so I went back to LP and I killed my BW clock and calendar and now I'll give it a day...... to be continued!
 
Alrighty, keep us posted.

I lvoe me some BW, but if it is getting laggy, it is gonna have to be replaced by like 4 other apps lol....

Another thing to check - how much free space do you have, and check and see if there is a ton of cache space being used by BW - if so, clear it out and see if that helps.

I do clear the cache regularly. I will have to check the free space. I don't have all that many apps (compared to other people so I can't imagine it's bad).
 
If you're running UD and LauncherPro, try this to minimize lag:

In LauncherPro - Preferences--> Advanced Settings--> Memory Usage Settings and CHECK "Use Homescreen Caches" and "Build Caches as Needed".

In Ultimate Droid - Ultimate Settings--> Performance Settings and CHECK "Lock Home in Memory" and set VM heap to 24.

These things have gone a long way to mitigate screen lag. You may have to reboot for the settings to take effect. Try it and let me know if it worked for you. :)

okee I changed the performance setting in UD. But now I feel like an idiot. Where are the launcher pro preferences?
