Has anyone started a list of what apps (bloatware) can be removed / disabled? For instance, I have 5 VZ Backup Assistant Apps showing.....can I or should I disable all of them....

BTW, the error message about other apps not working kind of freaks you out!

I don't know of a list but I just went through them one by one (there wasn't that many) and disabled them if I could. Backup Assistant can't be disabled without root. Here's what I disabled:

Apps
Facebook
Google+
MOG Music
MOTOACTV
Music Store
My Music
My Verizon Mobile
NFL Mobile
Slacker
Slingbox
Social Location
VCAST Tones
Verizon SSO Engine
Verizon Video
Video Calling
VideoSurf
VZ Navigator

There may have been a few others but if I was allowed to uninstall, I did so. :)

Thanks for the list...I will give it a go....

Also, if you disable the apps, I assume they will stop prompting you for updates?

so besides no prompts for updates, what else does disabling these apps do?

If these apps are designed to run on boot, disabling them will free up RAM and CPU power, and that in turn will save a little battery. Also, when they are disabled, it hides them so they don't show up in your App Drawer. Not as good as uninstalling them, but out of sight/out of mind. :)

alright that is a good tip, was it available to 2.3? or is this a new feature of ICS because i don't think i remember seeing it in 2.3

Does anyone know what app is giving me the notifications in the top notiification bar that I just started getting as a + sign, Star, and other symbols. They are usually colored as well, and if you click on it, it is a link to an app on google play.

These just started in the past week, I at first thought I had malware on my phone as it opened a browswer.

I usually get one a day. I can't figure out what app is doing this. But definitely want to get rid of it. Thanks.

It's an ICS feature. Gingerbread 2.3 (and this may be specific to MotoBlur) would allow you to hide the app icons from the App Drawer, but not actually disable the app. Non-rooted users such as myself were very happy when ICS natively allowed you to actually disable the bloat.

I was getting the same notifications on mine,I found the app Air Push Detector, installed it and let it run and it found the app that was sending the notification. It was a go theme I had downloaded,I deleted the theme and haven't had anymore pop up.Maybe this will help.

I have attempted to disable certain google apps. Such as google books and google movies. Only for these apps to reappear once i powered the phone back on. Then the other day i happened across a web site for the CHURCH OF GOOGLE. Where individuals believe google is the closest entity to an all knowing GOD. Which explains how these apps always enable themselves once disabled.

Has anyone tried deleting these apps with something like super tool box ten with out causing mass chaos, or can you only disable them?
Thanks!

Im on page plus, not verizon. i dont need any vcast or vzw stuff. If you have verizon and want to see if you need file or not, just rename it like (filename.bak).. do the same for *.odex but name it (filename.bakk). if your phone doesnt work after changing the name, change it back and don't delete.
