Help HOW TO: Enable 850Mhz 3G Network Frequency on your Samsung i9000 Galaxy S

I have the Galaxy i9000T the box states that the frecuencies are HSUPA tri-bands 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz and EDGE/GPRS cuad-bands 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz but here in Costa Rica Cellphones work best on UMTS 850 Mhz and WCDMA 850mhz. I really don't want to start something I can finish or even screw something up! Does anyone know if CrazySte's suggestion will work for me. If it is anyhelp I upgraded to Android firmware version 2.2.1 on my own...I don't know if this effected anything.

Has anyone been able to do this on the Miui (Lithium) ROM? I can't access the service menu using the codes when I moved over to Lithium 12.0 . Thanks.

I don't know if I can get help here.
But I'm taking galaxy s I9000t with me to China. It's running 2.2.1 I9000tubjp9 version.
Here in China I'm using a "China mobile" sim card. I found I can connect only on gsm 900 or 1800 bands. But the problem is that on both bands it's in roaming mode. The same card in a different phone is ok. Any idea why that's the case and how to fix that?
Thanks.

Hi,
I was wondering if you had a solution for me. I have a Galaxy ACE s5840L which has HSDPA 850/1900 and the network I need to connect to is is a 900/2100 network. Is there a solution? Would installing a modem work? How do you do that? Thanks so much.

Hello, I have galaxy s2 T989 from tmobile, I am in dominican republic using ORANGE as my carrier they support the 900 mhz frecuency for 3g, my galaxy is not picking up 3g, I am trying to enable 3g using this method, i was told that tmobile usa uses 2100 frecuencies and desable the rest. How can i get 3g in my country?

I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS HARDWEARD DISABLE AND THE PHONE WOULD NEED TO BE OPEN UP, IS THAT TRUE?

Hello, my phone does not show the option for combi bands is the tmobile galaxy s2 T989, it has LTE Band Preference instead.

The phone does not enable several options at a time, it only picks one.

I can only get the asterick on one option, if i tab on another one it will remove the option from the previous one.

any adivice?

Quick question... have a Galaxy ACE, carrier is T-Mobile, can only get 2G (EDGE) service right now... question is; Am I hosed with this phone for 3G on T-Mobile, OR would a Modem code change fix the problem?:confused::eek::confused::eek:

Hi,

I've bought an SGS+ and am trying to work it with TIM in Brazil. Have exactly the same problem reported by you, and don't know what to do.
My phone barely works with 3G. Almost every time it's in Edge :(
Any tips ?

Tks

I'm only getting Edge connection but I can't get 3G.

I had the same problem. Have Galaxy S I9000T, but i am in Panama, so after meny flash and experiment, i fixed 850 problem by flushing XWJS3 that brought the phone to XPY 2.2.1 and then using trick mention above got 850 working. Hope this will help.

GSM/EDGE : 850Mhz - 900Mhz - 1800Mhz - 1900Mhz

WCDMA/3G : 850Mhz - 900Mhz - 1900Mhz - 2100Mhz

HI EVERYBODY,
don't worry, i am not Crazy like my NickName states and making your Galaxy S work on 3G with a Carrier that offers 3G only on the 850Mhz Spectrum is as easy as a Finger Tap on the Screen of your Phone.

Phone companies make Cell Phones for Europe as well as United States, but for sure, to not waste money in making different Chip Boards that can handle different kind of Frequencies, they just make the Same Identical Phone and just enable or disable some Functions.

In the United States, some carriers, in my case i have a contract with AT&T, use 3G only in the 850Mhz Band, but if you bought your Phone Unlocked and like me it came from Europe, the 850Mhz Band is disabled, so you just have to Enable the 850Mhz Band Frequency in order to be able to pick up the 3G Frequency of you Carrier here in the US.

Here is how you do it:

Open the Phone Screen and Type the following code:

* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *

The phone will automatically take you to a screen called:

SERVICE MODE

AND YOU WILL SEE THESE OPTIONS:

----------------------
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
[2] VERSION INFO
[3] UMTS RF NV
[4] GSM RF NV
[5] AUDIO
[6] COMMON
----------------------

all these options are written very very small so you will have to touch the screen very accurately to get the right one... so select them in the following order:

[1] Debug Screen
+
[8] Phone Control
+
[7] Network Control
+
[2] Band Selection

Once you Tap on "Band Selection" you will have a screen stating these 4 Options:

-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------

The Asterisk ' * ' indicates what option has been chosen, in this case the selection is on "AUTOMATIC" which is correct: the Phone will pick the best Network to work, we just have to make sure that the Phone is searching in all the Possible Networks because by Default some of them are Disabled.

So Tap on:
[2] WCDMA Band []

and on the screen you will see appearing the following Options:

----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V) []

-----------------------------------

In my case, since the Telephone comes from Europe, the 850 Band is not enabled and you can tell that by the fact that it doesn't have the ' * ' beside it.

JUST TAP ON
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)[]

the phone in about a second will tell you that the Option has been Enabled.

~~~To Go Back DO NOT USE THE "LOOPED ARROW" Button~~~
=== PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON
and select "BACK" ===
now on the screen you should see the Asterisk beside all the Frequencies, like this:
----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------
Now, just to make sure that we did everything right, let's press again the "MENU BUTTON" and select again "BACK" so we go back to the
" =BAND SELECTION= " Screen:
-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------
This time, let's choose a different Option:
Tap On:
[4] Combi Bands []
and you will see a screen giving many more Bands Options like this:
----------------------------------
= COMBINATION BANDS =
[1] GSM 850
[*]
[2] GSM 900
[*]
[3] DCS 1800
[*]
[4] PCS 1900
[*]
[5] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[6] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[7] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[8] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------
Make sure that there is the ' * ' beside the "WCDMA 850 (FDD V)" if you don't see it, Tap on that Option so that it will be enabled.
And then go Back (remember you have to do that with the "MENU BUTTON" and not with the "LOOPED ARROW" Button) and make sure that all the Bands have been enabled.
If all the 8 Different Bands Options have the Asterisk beside it, you have successfully enabled all the 3G Bands available and now you will be able to access the 850Mhz 3G Network Spectrum.
ONCE YOU ARE DONE PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON AND CHOOSE: " END "
This is it, for me it worked, now i am using my Samsung Galaxy S with AT&T 3G and for now, i didn't have any problem... i don't know if in the future AT&T will "'bitch'" about this, but i really hope not.
After all, it's their fault that they keep locking down the Android Phones that they sell making them as much Unusable as an iPhone.
THIS PROCEDURE CAN BE USED TO ENABLE/DISABLE ANY OTHER NETWORK BAND YOU WANT
So will this save battery? and what is the point of doing this?
Crazy you ain't!! If it were possible, I'd buy you a big delicious ribeye steak or a desired dish of your choice. :-) Because of your posting concise instructions, you saved a good friend, and possibly me, a painful sum of money. He had purchased a Tab 7 and promptly fell in love with it. Because we only had 2G available to us until a few weeks ago, neither if us new the 3G 900MHz limitation put on these devices.
A couple of weeks ago he stumbled upon a little girl using her phone browser and the speed was lightening fast. Upon query he discovered our area now has 3G. So I switch my Galaxy S2 with no problem, but his Tab 7 wouldn't change from 2G. That's when I learned our 3G is 850MHz which my S2 was already configured for.
So he had all but resigned himself to shelling out $500 for the Tab 8.9 when I started researching the differences between 850 & 900MHz and stumbled upon your post. It EXACTLY configured the firmware to 850MHz and now he's running full speed 3G. :-D
Thank you just isn't strong enough for the feelings of happiness you've helped both my friend and myself. Today I'm going to use your configuration on another friend's Galaxy S.
Thank you!! Thank you!! :-D
THIS PROCEDURE CAN BE USED TO ENABLE/DISABLE ANY OTHER NETWORK BAND YOU WANT
I have htc inspire 4g. I'm in turkey. I cant use 3g in turkey. Do you know how to open my 3g like samsung?
In addition after 850 is selected, if I do *#0011#, it only shows 2100 as being used. wasn't able to see 850 ever.
Could it be a wrong modem version installed in my ROM ?
I tried every setting I could think of and after doing the *#0011# (twice) I got the same reading. It says I'm still on 'Edge' at the band of GSM1800.
Same situation here on my (International) unbranded GTI9000 SGS.
I've tried going to this and tried going to that but I'm not getting anywhere. I went into my phone internet provider today and they assured me that 3G was available as of today, but I can;t seem to get it. In fact I can't even get the phone to work on 850 in GSM OR WCDMA. I've gone GSM ONLY, I've gone WCDMA ONLY, I've tried enabling 850 in both GSM and WCDMA in COMBI BANDS....and nothing seems to get me on 3G. I'm stuck in AUTOMATIC and GSM1800.
I just don't get it. I don't know what the ongoing problem is. :( I was REALLY hoping this would work. I'm really disappointed.
Would any one help please,
I have Samsung Exhibit II 4G and I unlocked it in Egypt. So, I want to do it vise verse.. Egypt is using 2100 3G Network, so can I enable this option on my Android Exhibit 2??
In my Samsung Galaxy Ace, when I enable Service Mode, and go to Band Selection, there is no asterisk between the [] and when I click it no * comes up. Also, there is no asterisk marked anywhere, what will I do? Please help :(
Hi everyone, noob here so dun wanna start a new thread with my question since it is related to this matter and I was wondering if anyone can help me because I really can't figure it out anymore.
I have an International GT-i9000 purchased with Hong Kong and system specs I have running are
Gingerbread.ZSJW4 (recently flashed the official ROM from Hong Kong)
Kernal: 2.6.35.7-I9000ZSJW4-CL1147074
se.infra@SEI-46 #2
Bandbase version: i9000ugkg3
And I use AT&T in New York (I know, worse plan to use in dead zone capital of the US)
I had flashed the ugkg3 modem on it because the JW1 modem that was with the official ROM wasn't working out for me and I had heard this modem was the best for my area. Before it would either not pick up a signal when coming up from underground or the signal just go dead, which did not happen when my phone was on Froyo (on Froyo I did not have 850mhz enabled and it worked alright outside and sometimes in the house)
At first, the KG3 modem worked wonderfully, I was able to receive data in my house and was on 3 bars (compared to none to one before), however, I now notice that while I do have full bars, I cannot receive or send messages or phone calls (even though my brother's Note is able to do all that and it was next to my phone).
I also happens when I am outside as well.
The other day I was standing in front of the AT&T store near where I am and I still don't pick up a signal.
Unless if I really can't use 850mhz on my phone, which does not make sense because AT&T uses 850mhz.
I am real hesistant to try another modem, and I cannot figure out if it is a hardware issue or network issue, or is it a hardware issue.
Can someone please share any insight?
Thanks!!!
----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V) []
-----------------------------------
In my case, since the Telephone comes from Europe, the 850 Band is not enabled and you can tell that by the fact that it doesn't have the ' * ' beside it.
JUST TAP ON
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)[]
the phone in about a second will tell you that the Option has been Enabled.
~~~To Go Back DO NOT USE THE "LOOPED ARROW" Button~~~

=== PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON
and select "BACK" ===

now on the screen you should see the Asterisk beside all the Frequencies, like this:

----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------

Now, just to make sure that we did everything right, let's press again the "MENU BUTTON" and select again "BACK" so we go back to the
" =BAND SELECTION= " Screen:

-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------

This time, let's choose a different Option:

Tap On:
[4] Combi Bands []

and you will see a screen giving many more Bands Options like this:

----------------------------------
= COMBINATION BANDS =
[1] GSM 850
[*]
[2] GSM 900
[*]
[3] DCS 1800
[*]
[4] PCS 1900
[*]
[5] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[6] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[7] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[8] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]
----------------------------------

Make sure that there is the ' * ' beside the "WCDMA 850 (FDD V)" if you don't see it, Tap on that Option so that it will be enabled.

And then go Back (remember you have to do that with the "MENU BUTTON" and not with the "LOOPED ARROW" Button) and make sure that all the Bands have been enabled.

If all the 8 Different Bands Options have the Asterisk beside it, you have successfully enabled all the 3G Bands available and now you will be able to access the 850Mhz 3G Network Spectrum.

ONCE YOU ARE DONE PRESS THE "MENU" BUTTON AND CHOOSE: " END "

This is it, for me it worked, now i am using my Samsung Galaxy S with AT&T 3G and for now, i didn't have any problem... i don't know if in the future AT&T will "'bitch'" about this, but i really hope not.

After all, it's their fault that they keep locking down the Android Phones that they sell making them as much Unusable as an iPhone.

I hope this post help
