Root how to fix slow galaxy s

i just recieved a tmobile samsung vibrant galaxy s (with the front face cam) phone from a friend and it seems very sluggish. freezes up and runs very slow. how can i fix this? i googled how to root it but it was confusing to me and i dont want to try to do it blind and possibly ruin my phone. im sure i sound ignorant to all you phone gurus on here but i would really appreciate the help. thank you

So its pretty new to you right? Did your friend uninstall all apps and data before giving it to you? I'd suggest factory resetting it.

i factory reset it and moved all possible apps over to the sd card. its still sluggish. id really like o root it i was just wondering the simplest way to do that

I suggest reading, reading and more reading. The phones speed is slow due to Samsungs I/O setup for the memory. I dont know all the details but this is where custom roms and certain files come in handy. I ran two programs to rewrite how the phone utilizes its memory. It is super fast now.
