• Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Touch Screen Digitizer
• Sony Ericsson Xperia Play LCD Screen

Tools:

• Safe Open Pry Tool
• Torx T5 Screwdriver
• Torx T6 Screwdriver
• Adhesive Strips (For Touch Screen Repairs)
• Heat Gun/Hair Dryer

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play take apart guide:

• Remove first the back battery cover and the battery.
• Next remove the thirteen (13) T5 Torx Screwdriver as shown in Figure 1.

• Release the clips holding the back housing onto the device using safe pry tool.
• The motherboard will be exposed once the housing has been removed.
• Two (2) Small Phillips Screws holding the motherboard in place must be removed.
• Next, gently pry the headphone jack which is head with a small clip and adhesive using safe pry tool. Be careful on the connected flex cable.

• The motherboard must be left to its side after sliding outward the Xperia Play. Be cautious as it is still connected by 2 flex cables.

Thank you muchly for this, although i have one question before i start. do i need replacements for the adhesive holding the screen to the housing and the digitalizer in place? ie, do i need to glue my new parts or will the current adhesive still hold it?

There is a couple of reasons why it may not be working, however the most likely is that is a simple connection issue. Check over your install and make sure everything is installed correctly.

I have followed all the steps to change my broken touchscreen on my xperia play, but the screen is unresponsive. I thought I may have forgotten to connect something, so I took it back apart. Then proceeded to reassemble it. Five different times. Everything is installed correctly. The front buttons work, as well as the gaming keys (which I am currently now using to maneuver through my phone).

Often times during repairs some of the internal components can become loosened or dislodged. It is essential that all connections involving these components are firmly attached before reassembling your device.

I just replaced the LCD on my xperia play because it was going bright then dark, then after awhile it just went black. Everything's back together but the screens just black still. It vibrates to turn on, but just black. All the connections seem good.....what should happen now and was that the LCD screen to begin with?

It definitely sounds like you have an LCD issue, and you took the right step to replace it. Unfortunately, it's possible the LCD replacement screen you purchased is a defective screen. This is a common problem many people have when attempting these repairs. Perhaps try returning the replacement screen for a new one from the company you bought it from? Or get a refund, and buy one elsewhere. Best of luck!
