How to get Android 2.1 update

I have just bought an X10 mini in the UK. The "About phone" section on the phone says that the firmware is version 1.6 but I understand that an update to 2.1 exists. How do I get my phone to download and install this update? I've tried the "software update" option on the phone and also tried the same option on PC Companion but both say that no updates exist. Any help would be appreciated - I'm not familiar with this sort of thing.

If you could mention what carrier you are with, that may help narrow it down. I have a feeling that either O2 or Vodafone hadn't released it yet although there seems to be conflicting advice regarding that.

Your other option is to try Sony Ericsson Update Service as this is sometimes more reliable than PC COmpanion. The update is so big that you have to do it via a PC not over the air on your phone.
