How to get google play on Andoid hipster aurora?

Druidik

Lurker
I got GetJar on it but I don't like it as it has poor selection of apps, and I am not returning my tablet so I was wondering how to install google play and get apps from there?

Hello and welcome aboard. I'm not sure of what Getjar is (never used it before), so I won't be able to assist you with this problem; however, what I will do is move your thread to our Android Lounge area for some better response.

Best of luck. :)

Druidik - what device are you using?

The only search result I get for Android Aurora is the Firefox web browser. We can go from there once we get some more info. Thanks.

Forgot the most important part.. it is a tablet, and getjar is a app store, and I want google play instead of get jar.

I believe it could be the Ainol 7 Aurora. A Chinese tablet, intended to be sold and used here in China. That's why there's no Google Play on it. Druidik did you buy this tablet from somewhere like Ebay or a Chinese wholesaler?

Problem with many of these China pads, is often there is little or no information available for them,, e.g. like changing the ROM to a non-Chinese version that has Google.

I know you have experience with these tablets - can he just load a Vending.apk onto the tablet and load up Google Play or does it require other framework pieces?

You need root access first (good luck), then take the Google Play .apk and push it to system/apps directory. The newer Play .apk has to be a system app for it to work correctly.

And that may pose a problem since there is little information about these tablets and rooting them although some universal rooting tools may work on it.

Going to wait to hear back from mikedt since he has a lot of experience with them.

I've never actually tried rooting a China pad myself. From what I read, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Seems to be pot-luck on what brand or model of tablet you have.

I recently bought an Ampe tablet, this one does have Google. However a couple of other 4.0 devices I looked at didn't, and appeared to have a different interface to the default 4.0 one, no Google Play. Plus they were full of Chinese apps, that AFAIK can't be removed unless rooted. Another two Ampe tablets in the same store, were faulty out of the box. One was DOA, other had an unresponsive touch screen.

Although my Ampe A76 does appear to have ICS 4.0 pretty much as Google intended. However it is quite buggy. Popup messages like "Maps is not responding, wait or close", even though I might not be using Maps. NO software update's from Ampe's website(Chinese only). It was very cheap and does what I bought it for, to watch pr0n in bed. :D I've had it a month now, and it's not bricked itself yet, so should be OK...fingers crossed.

I had low expectations of this device, and so far it hasn't disappointed me.
