Help How to get rid of Gmail

I receive both Gmail and mail from my Pop3 Outlook acct. I want to continue to receive mail from my Outlook but want to get rid of the Gmail constantly notifying me that I have more spam waiting to be read. I've stopped the app and cleared all data and account settings but it keeps coming back on my LG Optimus Elite that is not rooted. What are my options to stop it receiving Gmail?

Go to Settings > Accounts & Sync, click on your google account and uncheck sync gmail
