Root How-To Guide: Root the Huawei M835

Sebuo

Lurker
So I went through a lot of trial and error to figure this out. I thought I'd spare you all the trouble.

Before you being rooting there are a few things you'll need to download.

PdaNet for Android - This will install the correct drivers for you to begin rooting.
Download PdaNet

SuperOneClick (SOC) - This will do the rooting.

Step 1:
Install PdaNet for Android
Follow the prompts required by the installer.

Step 2:
Set your phone to USB debugging mode, then plug it into your computer. (if you haven't already done so)
Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging [✓]

Step 3:
Unzip SuperOneClick, locate the unzipped folder, and open SuperOneClick.exe

Step 4:
Select the Driver Check button, you should be prompted with "No issues found."

Step 5:
Now select the Root button and wait for the process to complete.
If it ask you to install anything, do it.

Finally shut off your phone and restart. If you've done this correctly you should now have a new app titled Superuser and you're officially rooted, if you don't something went wrong.

Good luck everyone!

I have the optimus m. my girlfriend just got this phone (against my wishes, this phone blows) but Ill root it for her I guess. Any idea hot to make it response quicker

i rooted my phone using this guide to delete the metro apps then unrooted it
Now i want to root the phone again but this time around when i reboot the phone loops on the metro pcs logo

Beats me mate, I've never attempted the unrooting process (this guide was never for that). But from what I understand, unrooting usually means wiping everything clean and installing the stock ROM.

is the stock rom available anywhere for us to do this? I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on doing some things because I'm afraid I'll be scroood if it ends up in boot loop land

EDIT: saw on another forum that there is a stock rom floating around (i don't know where yet), but they mentioned that there isn't a working CWM for this phone model right now. Can anybody confirm/deny this or explain how they got CWM working for them? Thanks in advance

I am working on a cwm but if you find one let us know.

I rooted my M835 using SuperOneClick and now I cannot go on the web or download anything. Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?

I actually used Root Uninstaller(FREE) to freezed some of the Metro Apps. Would freezing an app have the same effect as deleting an app or it is better to delete the app from the phone altogether?

Best to freeze first (only for testing on app that you don't know weather or not are safe to delete.) And delete once you are sure its not gonna screw anything. Deleting frees up space, freezing simply stops the system from seeing it.

Does anyone know of a good (preferably free) USB driver for the M835? I need one to download the PdaNet and the Troubleshooting page does not have a link for Huawei drivers, only LG, Samsung and Motorola.

You need the USB Drivers for it? Last I recall, I was able to use PdaNet without any such thing, the phone comes with them.

An error message popped up while installing it, it said that the phone was not detected even though I had put it on to USB debugging, and I turned on USB storage. The only issue the troubleshooting page covered was if your phone didn't have the driver, that this would happen, so I'm guessing this is my problem.

what worked for me:
1. turn OFF usb storage so da phone pops up like a disk drive
2. when it says the driver options, select browse
3. go to my computer, select the phone without entering any folders,
4. then click the install button.

atleast thats what worked 4me
:)

It never prompts me for driver options, only where to put the shortcut folder, and even then it will only let me select from folders in the program bar under start.

I'm going to try to see if I can download it directly to my phone from my phones browser.

I got almost everything to work, execpt when it said that it was "Waiting for device ..." it stopped responding, is there anything else that I should be doing that isn't listed?

Also, no matter how long I left it, it wouldn't respond anymore.
