I'm using IMO beta to aggregate IM messages from several sources. The source of most of these messages is a number of internet servers. When something goes "wrong" the monitoring servers complain via many IM messages (we used to use SMS but "message storms" tend to be a huge problem, especially without an unlimited text plan).
