Root How to install custom rom on my htc hero?

Have you looked over the All Things Root Section?
Just to be clear, do you have the GSM/International model or the Sprint version?

The guide is for firmware 2.1, while my HTC hero is on firmware 1.5 only. Plus it doesn't have anyway to update to 2.1 OTA. Not in the Settings, About phone section. So how do I install custom rom now? I rooted my phone with Universal Androot already
