how to install ics bootloaders

hi

i wanted to update gs2 of one of my friend and when i was going through the tutorials of xda there was a line indicating that i should check if it has ics boot loaders. it said to make sure about it, it is best to flash an official rom. unfortunately that is not an option for me since i have a small bandwidth.

i was wondering if i could just root my phone and then install te boot loaders and then flash the cm9 or what ever.

it would mean a lot to me if you could help me understand this bootloading stuff.

Does your friend have the international (i9100) or do they have the g variant like yourself?

It's the international version. But i want to learn it for any phone or update. I mean i want to know what is to be done if one year from now i start seeing " make sure that you have key lime pie bootloaders" in the "how to..."s

i hope i have gotten what i meant across. Sorry for the english any way.

It's possible to flash just the downloader. It can be downloaded from here

It's about half way through the 2nd post, just after the kh2 firmware. Just put it in the pda or downloader box in Odin and flash like you would a kernel.
