How to Keep Screen Off SMS Notifications

Hey guys, I have a Samsung Galaxy Apollo 2.1 and I'd like to know is it possible to keep the screen off when receiving an SMS notifications. I've tried everything. I use GO SMS as my main SMS app.

I've disabled everything from the stock message app.

On the notifications setting for GO SMS, I unchecked the "Screen On" option and still... if the phone has its screen off and I receive one, the screen lights up for a moment.

I downloaded ChompSMS and Handcent and still, no good.

It's driving me nuts since the option CREARLY says the screen will be kept off.

Handcent does have the option. There's a checkbox under notification settings for "screen on". If you check it, it turns on. If you uncheck it, the screen stays off.

hey man, thanks for the quick response.

i've tried all that and still, the screen turns on. i've even disabled ALL notifications from ALL messaging apps, so i suspect it might be the phone itself, or the system or something.

So you're running ALL of them at once? Try ditching the other two, and be sure to disable the stock one

No. What I mean I downloaded GO SMS, which has that "Screen On" option as well. I unchecked it and seeing as that didn't work, I downloaded Handcent (which as you said has that same option), and seeing as that didn't work, I downloaded ChompSMS.

Nothing.

So I ditched two of them, back to the start.

What exactly do you mean by "disabling"? I am sure I've unchecked all notifications from the stock app.

Could it be something else?

Not that I'm aware of, though you never know if the OEM tweaked anything in the OS. If you go into the stock messaging app and hit the menu button to bring up the settings, there should be a checkbox for notifications. Make sure that box is unchecked.

I am 100% sure it is unchecked.

This can't be possible. I mean it keeps waking me up at night and it's draining battery life since I'm kind of a heavy user.

Is it possible to completely disable the stock messaging app? I mean to prevent it from starting up or something...?

They don't compete with each other, so if the notifications are off, then they're not doing anything. You could try posting in your phone's sub forum and see if other people get the same behavior. That'll be telling, either way.
