How to Make Android Stop Saving My Searches

Hi. I just bought my first Android phone ever. I'm really loving the amazing apps. One thing that's driving me crazy is the search history. I have Android 2.2 (LG Optimus V) and every time I go to search for an app, my full search history pops up. I cannot delete it. Do I need to root my phone in order to delete the search history for apps? I considered resetting the phone and restoring the defaults to clear everything (under the "privacy" option) but I don't want to have to delete all of my apps. (I did my searches using Google Android Market.)

Also, I can delete the search for the browser but it always saves my new searches after that. Can I permanently disable search history? Thanks.

From your homescreen - tap search key, then menu, then Search (Google Search) - option to turn off or manage search history should be there.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the reply. First, I got to a list of options by doing the steps below:

home button -> search button -> menu button -> "Search settings" -> "Google search"

That brought me to a screen with a list of options. The "Manage search history" did not solve the problem because it was never saving my searches on my Google account in the first place. The problem is that it saves my searches locally, on my phone's physical device.

There was also an option for "Search history" and I turned it off. It did not solve the problem. There was also an option called "Show web suggestions" and I turned it off. It did not solve the problem.

When I open up "Market" and touch the search button, it displays all of my past searches. I do not want this. The menu button does not do anything when I press it.

I have the app that's just called YouTube. The same problem arises with that app. I open the app, press the search key, and a list of all my prior searches is displays. I want to get rid of the list and make it stop displaying the list.

Ideally, I'd like my phone to just stop saving everything I look up and showing it the next time I do a search (for all apps). Is this possible? Any ideas? Thank you.

menu>settings>applications>manage applications>*choose market*>clear data

Does not work. Spent all morning searching the market for sexytime fun, but your method doesn't clear it. Hurry, wife will be home soon!

Edit: Oops, I was hitting "clear cache" instead of "clear data". All set. Phew.
