Help How to make Chrome app use less data?

I'm not using Chrome that much, only 3-4 times in a day. But it still uses so much data than it should. It's been 6 days and it used 100 mb.

Chrome's background data is disabled so it can't use data when I'm not using it. Data saving mode is enabled.
So, is there any way to make Chrome use less data?

I could use another browser but I want my browser history to synch, so I can't do it with Opera or Firefox. (I guess Opera's data saving mode is better, as far as I remember though)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Opera will sync with the phone, PC and tablet. I used them before I found Yandex, which has a few benefits over Opera. Don't know how much data it will use compared to Chrome though

I use Dolphin, which can be found in the Play Store. Syncs just fine with my Google account. I've switched devices three times, 2015 - 2016 saw me upgrade three times. Also had to do a few factory resets on my first of three devices, and each time I simply downloaded Dolphin, signed in, told it to sync and it rebuilt all my settings and bookmarks from my Google account. It's similar to Chrome but better in my opinion and very lite... Email me if interested and have questions...

The answer is that it really does depend on what you do when using Chrome how much data it will use. But unless something is compressing images etc before sending to your phone (as Opera does via their servers) there's no reason to expect data use to be significantly different between different browsers loading the same sites.

Ad blocking will help (and make your device more secure, since some ad scripts are outright malicious). Easy if you are rooted, not sure what add-ons there are for Chrome on an unrooted device, but it's common these days on many sites for ads to use more bandwidth than the actual content. If you can set Chrome not to auto-play/download embedded videos etc that may also help. I doubt that blocking trackers makes a huge difference to data use, but it may reduce it a little, and hey, why not block the damned things anyway?

I can't offer anything more helpful because I personally don't use Chrome (in fact uninstall it), so don't know what options it has.

One of the things people often miss with chrome if having multiple tabs open. When you open Chrome does it show a small number to the right of the URL? If so, this is the number of tabs you have open, and if one of those has dynamic content, it will refresh it, using data.

Swipe down on the header and you can close the tabs individually.

I use Adguard, from the play store, to block unwanted ads. Also helps using less data consumption on chrome.

Go into:
~ Settings-data-Chrome and restrict background data
~ settings-app-chrome and turn off most the perms that you don't need.. Like location, SMS read, ect.. It was accessing my camera, location (even with it turned off!) SMS, MMS, contacts, call logs, and more! I was like "holy crap! ..For JUST a BROWSER?!" Messenger also has exceptional perms as well.

After this, I noticed that my Chrome data consumption hass dramatically decreased. My background data was even using MORE data than my normal use before I made the changes!
