How to make multiple home screen shortcuts on the home screen?

Hi,

I am using a Xiomi Note 4G. Just to keep all my apps well organised and easily accessible, I want to make multiple folders on the home screen, each for a particular app category like - entertainment, social media, shopping, games etc and put the launchers of the app that belong to a particular category into that folder.

Now there are some apps, whose launchers I want to put up in multiple folders. Now, how can I make mutiple launchers of the same app and put one in one folder and other in another folder?

I use Nova Launcher Prime and it lets me create folders and place apps in them. Once you have folders you can add the program icons into multiple folders with no problem. I haven't tried it with whatever you get straight out the box on a new phone. I've been using Nova Launcher since it came out a few years ago and haven't looked back. I'm pretty sure you can do it with the free version as well but I've never tried it. HTH

  • +1 Nova is pretty much the default recommendation for 3rd party launchers and I'm very happy with it.

I have a unique way of managing my apps / folders in Nova that leads to a somewhat complicated process required to add apps to multiple folders. I removed it to a spoiler because it won't apply to most people.
I generally put apps into folders using nova settings / app-widget drawer / drawer-groups / folders. And when I add an app to a folder, I keep the option to "keep apps in main tab" UNCHECKED. The logic is that my folders are logically arranged and frequently viewed, so I can easily find apps in my folders and don't need them to clutter up my app drawer. Also I don't move a newly installed app into folder until I'm sure I want to keep it. I try to keep my app drawer down to a small number of apps and review it periodically to delete stuff that I installed but never used enough to decide it needed to be promoted to a folder.

Why did I mention all that? Well with my approach it is difficult to add apps to two different folders: when you try to add an app to a second folder from homescreen or from the drawer it takes you to the main app list... The app isn't in it since it's already been moved to a folder...folders are there but tapping them adds the folder and does not allow selection of contents within the folder. Adding to a second folder can still be done, but it requires the following sequence: find the app in its original folder within Nova, then add it to homescreen, and then drag it into the second folder on the homescreen. (can't be done starting from homescreen and can't be done within nova settings alone).

I'm probably making Nova sound way more complicated than it is. Sorry about that... can be used very simply but also gives a lot of options to do things exactly the way you like.
