Help How to open the same app twice?

I need to open a same app twice, e.g. I want to open 2 maps (or 2 gallery images), so I can use the switch task button (long press home key) to quickly switch between 2 maps (or 2 images).

The easiest is probably to use 2 different apps which can do the same thing (2 gallery or mapping apps). I can't see why that wouldn't work for images, though for maps you might want features of a particular app on both.

BTW I've merged the threads since they are asking essentially the same question, how to have 2 instances of the same app running (the multi-window thing is a secondary question, since it still requires 2 instances of the app to be active). Unfortunately I don't know a way of doing that, which is why I suggested the work-around above.
