How to put DVDs onto Tab 10.1

Hi Guys,
Non-techie here!
I'm going to do some travelling and want to put some of my DVDs (tv shows, films, etc.) onto my Tab so I can watch while travelling.
How do I go about this, and do I need any special apps?
 
There's an app called Handbrake which should let you convert your DVD's etc to a format readable by your tab.

Once on there, I recommend MX Player for viewing them.

Whilst it's obviously for your own use, some publishers still prohibit you from making backup copies, so check with each of the DVD's before you convert.
 
I notice that there is a stock video player app pre-installed on the tab so, before I go purchasing and installing new apps, can I use this functionality and if so, back to my first question, how do I go about it?
 
It depends, I can't comment on the stock player on the Galaxy Tab, but on all my devices, I tend to find the stock player just doesn't cut it. I've the free version of MX Video player and it does me fine. You get the odd advert pop up every now and then, but it's not distracting and doesn't interfere with watching the film.

Handbrake should be free too? I've never actually used it myself so I've no idea how it actually works, I've just seen it recommended numerous times on my travels around the forum. I can install and have a play about to see how easy it is if you like?
 
Stock player isn't the best solution. I use BS Player and the ARM7 add on. It's free.

Define "how do I go about it?" What exactly are you asking? How do you go about using Handbrake? Transferring files from the PC to the Tab? What?
 
I'm asking how do I go about transfering the content of a DVD from the disk, via my pc, to the Tab.

My initial question was before anyone mentioned other apps.
 
Yes, but even then it wasn't clear what you were asking which is why you're not getting the answer you're looking for -and why I asked for clarification.

I assume you are only looking to copy DVDs you already own. Don't want to suggest anyone do anything illegal here...

You cannot transfer the contents of the DVD without first converting it (ripping it) to a format that the Tab can use - for example .avi or .mp4. That is why Handbrake is mentioned.

So, get Handbrake, read up on how to use it, and rip the DVD.
- Insure video encoder is set for H.264.
- Use a resolution of 720x480. You can set it larger, but a) that just makes the files huge, and b) you really don't need higher resolution. You can set Handbrake to limit the file size too.
- Audio encoder should be: ACC, 44100Hz, and 128kbs.
- You can, and should, search the web for other settings to try. I know you can embed sub-titles for different languages if they are on the DVD, but I haven't really needed to do that.

*** Warning ***
If you're ripping a 2 hour movie, expect Handbrake to take 2 hours. Also, if the DVD has some kind of copy protection, you may not be able to rip it. I used DVD43 to help with protected DVDs that I own. Just don't leave DVD43 running all the time or it might interfere with connecting some devices to your USB ports.

Connect the Tab to the PC. OK, I assume you have already installed the Samsung Tab drivers, or at least know how to install drivers? If not, you need to do this first. It will appear as a device (example: GT-7510), and not a drive (example: F:/).

Copy the files over from the PC to the Tab.
