How to quickly transfer data from microSD

I've noticed that transfering data through the usb cable with my devices USB Mass Storage is really slow (12MBs even when plugged into a usb 3 port). Any ideas on what to do to utilise the USB3 and transfer quicker (class 10 sd card)

May be better to use something like ES File Explorer's FTP Server feature to access your device's storage from your computer

Pop the card into an external USB 3.0-capable card reader?

I've tried that, and now that I think of it, I didn't check the speed, only the compatibility with asus 's usb 3 boost.
