Root How to remove apps

Sorry .... I know there are posts about what apps can be removed but not quite sure how to remove them. Specifically would like to remove visual voice mail to start....I believe its a preinstalled system app....Could some one kindly walk me and Im sure others on how to manually delete an app.....Thanks

There's several ways to delete apps. The best way is go to:

Settings > Apps > Select app > Clear cache > Clear data > Uninstall

Not all apps uninstall cleanly and completely. This helps to eliminate any leftover files.

If you can't uninstall an app, you may be able to disable it, which is just as good for practical purposes.

Settings > Apps > Select app > Force stop > Disable

If you can't disable it, ignore it.

Apps that cannot be uninstalled or disabled may be necessary for basic functions or could be bloatware that requires rooting the phone to remove. And rooting is a whole different subject.

Thank you for the info...I am rooted on basic stock rom....this visual voice mail is apparently a pre installed app....There is no way to delete it in manor your mentioning

If you're rooted, go ahead and install ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store. Open it, and swipe from the left. Click on the button that mentions root. Grant SU permission. After that, hit 'Mount System R/W'. Click the button under R/W for the /system partition. After that, hit OK, and then hit back. At the top, there's a little '/'. Click on it, then hit system. After that, hit 'app', or 'priv-app'. In there should be the VVM.apk or an icon related to Visual Voicemail. Long-tap on it and hit delete. Reboot, and the app will be gone. Applies to other bloatware as well.

Deleting that will likely result in you not getting any voicemail notifications.

Regular voice mail is what I want.....its this visual voice mail I could do without I just cant figure a way to stop it

my apologies maybe Ive been saying it incorrectly I dont want to stop voice mail...just this app that appears to want to turn voice messages into text.....It keeps wanting to download avatars I just dont l
know know how to turn it off

I understand...you don't want voicemail off, you want what's called *visual voicemail* off. You should be able to turn it off. I don't know what's on your phone. If it has a visual voicemail app, look in the settings of that. Or maybe disable it as I suggested before:

Settings > Apps > Visual Voicemail > Disable

I just can't say exactly how to turn it off. But I'm certain that there's a way. Maybe the user manual can help.

Well cant figure out how to delete it..it apparently is tied to regular voice mail. I uninstalled all updates which apparently sets it back to the initial config...so far its not doing anything....but of course havnt had any calls recently
