How to remove emojis from Gboard keyboard?

Hey there - I run android 7.0 on a moto G5+ and when I open the "add item" menu in sms messenger to use the camera or attach a picture I get a disaster areas of animated emojis that I have to scroll through to get what I want. How do I remove those panels from the app? If that's not possible, is there a similar app that doesn't have this?
Thanks!

Isn't there a little menu-y-ish bar at the bottom after you hit the +?

I use Textra and GBoard and it pulls up my gallery (because I use it a lot I guess) but there is a menu bar that I can quickly change to emoji, gifs etc.

Thank - I don't see one - it's just rows of galleries - emojis, then stickers, then camera / photos. No way to move them or delete them. I'm thinking it's not a Gboard issue, but an SMS app issue?
Thanks!

Yeah, it may be the app and not the keyboard, not sure.
Here's what mine looks like on Textra:

Oooo! I thought you meant you didn't have any tabs at all. Yours are vertical and mine are horizontal but you can just touch the gallery one right?

I thought you meant you to scroll through everything but you don't really, you just have to click the photo tab??

Well - if I want the tabs lower down I have to scroll - the camera is visible. I guess I want to reclaim the 50% wasted space that is filled with animations I will never want. It's worse than it looks in that screenshot - because the hamburger and the toast, and the broccoli, and all the emojis, are animated. Thanks!

Try different keyboards, you may find one you like better. I've used Swype and SwiftKey in the past and don't really remember why I stopped using either one. And/or try different SMS apps, they may display them better for you.

I don't think you can delete or hide that stuff on Gboard.
