Help How to remove facebook contacts from Phone Contact list?

CyberPitz

I have searched around, but can't find anybody with my exact issue with an answer yet.

When I first activated the phone and logged into FaceBook, I selected it to sync with ONLY my current contacts. Well, for some reason it decided to sync quite a few of my contacts (Not all, but more than I had). So when I go to my phone or my text contacts, I see that giant list.

Now, if I open my app drawer and go to "People", the 'all' tab does NOT show the extra contacts. So, I do not quite know what is going on...anybody have any ideas how to get rid of those facebook only contacts in my phone/text contact list?

You can filter it from the people app but thats about it. You are still going to see them in the dialer app.

That's horrendous. I'm going to hate scrolling through a hundred people when I only should have about 20....

Did you use Facebook for Android or the Facebook for HTC Sense?

I originally used Facebook for Android and had that problem but it additionally installed really bad looking pictures for my contacts. They were all fuzzy and pixeled.

I uninstalled Facebook for Android and my contacts went back to normal.
Then I ran the Setup in the apps section (Top hat icon) and this time I chose sync contacts with Facebook for HTC Sense (sync contacts only).

Everything was fine since then. Went back and downloaded Facebook for Android (no sync at all) so that I had the app. The other isn't available. I think its within the Friend Stream app which I don't like.

Hope that works/helps.

I uninstalled Facebook (Didn't say for Android, and it came with the phone, so not sure) and everything looked the same. I'll play with it a bit...

*EDIT* Yeah, no go here.....:(

Just so people know, if they have problems getting rid of those evil FaceBook contacts in your phonebook, go to Settings > Accounts & Sync > Click on Facebook > Remove Account. That will get rid of em.

No matter what I tried, with Facebook for Androidd or the HTC Sense Variant it would ALWAYS bring in contacts I didn't want. I just gave up and stopped syncing....

Just want to see if anybody else has found another way around this. I'd really like to keep my contact info synced with facebook without having so many people in my contacts list :P

I would love a fix for this also. I am coming from a Droid 1 and I liked that I could automatically get pictures for my Facebook friends without 300 extra contacts.

Do not use the Facebook that comes with the phone. Any of the HTC or Motorola UI type account things are pretty much useless and sync your contacts. Just download the actual Facebook app from the market and it wont mess with your contacts and gives you more functionality.

I am using the market Facebook and if I select sync with existing contacts like I did on my Droid it adds people to the caller list but not people. Why does the caller list show people who are not in people. That makes no sense to me.

I was able to remove the facebooks contacts from my regular contacts buy doing the followng. I removed my facebook account from the phone. I then re-added the facebook account, but as quick as possible you have to tap on the facebook account tab and then uncheck the "sync contacts" box before it has a chnace to sync. If your not quick enough it will sync a few of them but not all. If you are fast enough, none of them should sync. There may be an easier fix but this is the only thing I could find that worked. Hopefully it will work for you. Good luck!

While it's a PIA to scroll through all of the people in the contacts with Facebook sync'd, the few people I call often (wife, my parents, drinking buddies, etc.) are usually on top of the recently called list in the dialer app. So I usually just scroll through that list.

After some searching last night I found an app called syncmypix that pulls in contact pictures from Facebook in good quality. You don't get the status updates but I don't mind that at all.
