Help How to rename a device

Without rooting (which would void the warranty and I don't want to do that yet), is there a way to send a different device name over Bluetooth besides "XT1575"? My Darling Bride and I both have Moto X Pures... and we have both connected to our car's Bluetooth. Problem is, the car lists XT1575 TWICE, once for each phone. And we keep trying to connect each other's phone!

That's why I'd like to assign unique Bluetooth names to the phones, so we can tell which is which in the car. Is this possible?

Go to Settings>Bluetooth. Open menu (three vertical dots in upper right corner) and select "Rename this device."

I tried that, but so far I haven't found a way for the car to see my rename. I'll try deleting the connections in the car and starting over.

I renamed my MXPE to "MotoX" and my car Bluetooth recognized the rename. Be sure to delete "XT1575" and refresh your car's Bluetooth if it offers that option.

Looks like it worked! I deleted the old profiles in the car and started all over. Now it shows my phone's new name (Maxine) and I'll do the same for the Darling Bride. Thanks for the assist!

I hope Maxine is the name of your Darling Bride or a daughter. After 51 years of marriage I have learned to be very careful with such things. Anyway, I'm glad that you were able to connect both phones to your car's Bluetooth.
