how do I hard reset an android?

Be sure to backup everything you value before you do this as it will wipe your phone. Sd should be ok but i always remove them first to be sure

Hello and welcome to Android Forums!
I believe you are talking about doing a factory reset on the phone. There are different ways to do resets on different models of phones. If this is something you want to try here is how to do the reset, remember this will ERASE ALL DATA from your phone!
Here is how to do it on a samsung phone:
1.) Power down your phone
2.) Hold volume up and power button at the same time until you see the samsung logo and then you can release them. (Sometimes you will need to continue to hold them until you see the android)
3.) Now you should be into recovery mode.
4.) Use the volume down to scroll down on the list.
5.) Hover over wipe data/factory reset
6.) Click the power button to select this.
7.) Then you will need to use the volume down again to get to Yes.
8.) Once Yes is highlighted you can click the power button again and this will begin a factory reset. Thanks
Also if the phone is operational you can go into Settings, Backup and reset, and select Factory reset. I also think some phones have the Factory reset option under privacy, or SD & phone storage option within settings.
