ok so apparently im more ******ed than i thought that i couldnt Root using the "dummies" method. im not sure what i did wrong, followed it to a tee. the onyl thing i can think of is that my phone already has 2.1.

You can try this one. It exploits the same (root) bug, and comes with less instructions, but is probably more robust against user mis-steps (because there are few steps total).
