How to root SGH-T989D running 4.1.2? (never rooted before)

Hi,

I'm considering rooting my phone, however I have no idea where to starts as most of the guides I find for this kind of old phone are for earlier version of android.

I'm looking to accomplish 2 main things:
1) Expand the amount of device memory (2 GB is not enough)
2) Unlock the phone to be able to use it with other networks

Do you think these 2 are achievable without having to install a custom rom?
