Root How to root the samsung galaxy i9000 device?

Hi...
I just installed rom manager to my phone for backing up my applications...if i ever upgrade my android ver from 2.1 to 2.2. When i started the app it asked me to root my mobile phone. How do i do that? Step by step instructions would be really helpful and appreciated.
