Root How to Root your galaxy Tab 4

I used this video and the file from it to root my SM_T230UN. It work perfect the only thing that I don't think the video says is after flashing TWRP with Odin the tablet reboots when it does you need to hold MENU+POWER+VOLUME UP to IMMEDIATELY boot into TWRP. If you do not boot into TWRP at reboot and the tablet boots normal TWRP will be overwritten with stock recovery. Other then that fallow the direction in the video. The firmware I am on is kot49. T23NUUEU0ANJ3 I don't know if it makes a difference what firmware you are on

I used this method. Worked for me! I now have Link2SD and Titanium Backup installed. Reformatted the external SD to have a 8 GB ext4 partition for Link2SD. Will install a root app later that should make some 3D games run faster on the 7 inch tab. :)

The app was GLtools. Didn't work as well as I'd liked. Must be clashing with the Marvell chipset and/or the GL drivers. :(

I tried this method as instructed in another forum, but I missed the reboot. I am new to all of this, but I will try it again. I don't have any idea how to reformat to make a partition. Most of this is like a foreign language to me. Definitely going to try and learn this though.

If I were to root my Tab 4 what are the benefits besides being able to move some apps to the SD card?

Thanks

The ability to make full backups of your device, for starters. This includes apps and data.

Tweaking some script files to improve performance, like WiFi, graphics. This can get tricky, so be careful doing any tweaks. Backup first before trying anything.

If some great developer has the ability, someone could write a custom ROM for the tab 4. Typically, custom ROMs are smaller than the stock versions, and usually pack performance improvements that are proven to work solidly after some testing.

Before you do any of this, READ EVERYTHING YOU CAN before committing to major changes on your tab 4. :)

My tablet is on a stock lolipop and its giving me "Could not do normal boot" error then goes into ODIN MODE. Is there an updated recovery? There isn't one posted to these forums... eh.

Stock Lollipop? You sure? Which one do you have? The 7 inch is T230
or T230NU. 10 inch is T530 I think.

I have a T230NU in the US. No Lollipop update for it yet, where is yours located?

Woops i think im now really confused. My box says Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (10.1").... so when i clicked on forums i clicked samsung galaxy tab 4.... but should i be under 10.1? grr....

You're in the right forum. That is the Tab 4 with the Lollipop update, lucky you. Check out xda. They have an experimental over clock kernel for the t530, and a recovery from Philz. The threads are currently on pages 1 and 2 for those. Got to go, good luck! :)
