Root How to root?

jebinio

Newbie
hi, I'm a newbie that want to root my phone and I really need some help. I shall download the revolusionary, but where do I find my HBOOT. When I run the program shall I attatch the phone like a diskdrive? Plase tell me the procedure...............

It's always a good idea to have a fully charged battery when flashing or installing anything, although your phone will be connected to your laptop via the USB during S-Off with Revolutionary.

when I run revolutionary, it says waiting for device and nothing happens. Where do I check if USB DEBUGGING is enabled and do I plug my phone into usb as a drive ore what....................

But, can I do this when my phone is locked for one year because I've bought it with rebate

Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging

The USB connection you need when connecting to the Revolutionary tool is 'Charge only'.

But, can I do this when my phone is locked for one year because I've bought it with rebate

I'm not sure what you mean. But if you mean that your phone is locked to one service provider/carrier, then this won't make any difference and, as long as your phone has a compatible HBOOT version, you'll be able to S-Off with Revolutionary.

help - when I is in recovery and want to choose zip file, ther is so many directorys that the zip file is far down on the screen and I cant scroll down- how

I don't know why you're not able to scroll down. When at the top of a list, you can try pressing 'volume up' to get to the bottom of the list of files/directories.

thanks a bunch.......now I'm S_OFF and I installed a new rom through ROM MANAGER

I'm using SAGA LBC MOD v0.6.0

Do you have a recommandation?

It depends on what you like in the way of 'look and feel' (whether you like Sense or not), battery life and if you like tweaking the features and capabilities of your phone. Cyanogen Mod is very good if you're a tweaker, whereas Virtuous Unity has Sense 3.0, but still offers some tweakability. Both are well supported with regular updates. I've heard good things about MIUI and the Desire S version, but have never tried it.

I have Desire s Gingerbread 2.3.3, Sense 2.1 S-OFF
HWboot 98.0002
RUU 1.407.1.4

I have not recovery image in hwboot option.
Do I need to re s-off my Desire s ?
If the answer is not, what is prosedure to rooting?

Sounds like you've achieved S-Off but have missed an important step to enable you to root your phone.

If you don't want to go through the Revolutionary process again, or if you have and it doesn't work (in that it doesn't give you option to download ClockworkMod Recovery), you can try gaining root by downloading and running Gingerbreak. (You can also try SuperOneClick, which is a similar tool to Gingerbreak.) If it works you'll see an app called SuperUser and that means you have root.

HWboot 98.0002

-Download attached file, it has the adb and fastboot files needed to proceed
-Extract the file to "c:\" so that the path looks like this C:\android-tools
-Install HTCDriver (Fastboot drivers) (should already be installed from revolutionary step)
-Open cmd and type "cd/"
-then type "cd C:\android-tools"

*To test whether you have set up all the files correctly and your phone is connected correctly you can do the following;
*Plug your phone in (when plugging in select CHARGE ONLY (i.e. leave on the home screen)
*In cmd type "adb" and press enter, it should show a list of commands, then type "fastboot"and press enter, it should also show a list of commands)
*If both these commands work you have extracted the files to the right place and have setup cmd right.
*then type "adb devices"
*Should show connected phone serial if not then try get the latest HTCdrivers

-Download clockworkmod from their site for your phone and place .img in C:\android-tools folder (i.e. where the files adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll and fastboot.exe are)
*To make life easier rename the file to recovery.img
-start fastboot (boot Hboot, plug phone in "HBoot USB plug" shows once phone is plugged in and press the power button (fastboot is highlighted by default) then it says "Fastboot USB")

*(As a test to ensure you have put your phone into fastboot type "fastboot devices" in cmd, it will show your phones serial, if it shows nothing you have not put your phone into fastboot yet)

-run command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" in cmd
-then run "fastboot reboot"

Root phone using Clockworkmod and Superuser
-Copy su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip to sdcard root (Current latest version, get latest from clockworkmod site)
-Start clockworkmod recovery (Hboot/recovery)
-Select install zip from sdcard"
-select Choose zip from sdcard
-Select copied file
-select Yes - install su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip to confirm
-Go back
-Then reboot.

To install clockworkmod recovery you need to do this,

1) - Install Clockworkmod using adb
-Copy androidSDK to c:\ [download the zip of it, extract it to C:\AndrionSDK]
-Install HTCDriver (Fastboot drivers) (should already be installed if you did the Revolutionary S-off)
-In cmd type cd/
-The type cd androidSDK\tools adb devices
-Should show connected phone serial if not you didn't extract right
-Download clockworkmod for phone and place .img in androidSDK\tools
-start fastboot (Hboot/fastboot)
-and run command 'fastboot flash recovery recovery_name.img' if that doesn

Ok.
One more question.

Is it possible to get back from hboot 6.98.1002 to stock 98.0002

No at all. But I want to accept, offered Android 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 via OTA service.

I believe you can flash back to your old Hboot, just use fastboot or putting the file on the SD card and renaming it.

Edit:
Not actually sure it will be replaced, cause I don't know if the hboot is write protected so the RUU cant over write it.
I say this cause the hboot is similar to AlphaRev hboot which was downgrade protected and you needed to first flash a downgrader HBOOT then use the RUU.

Anyone shed some light on this?

Edit: Looked into it, and you can replace it, but you will need to download/flash an ENG Hboot first, and only then you can flash you original one, which you can get from an RUU.
