How to save home screen layout, or prevent changes?

Is there any way to do one of the following:
1) Lock the home screen layout, so apps can't be moved around and the screens can't be moved? OR
2) Save the home screen layout, so if they get changed (like by my kids), I can just load them again?

On my old HTC phone, I could save and load the home screen layout, but I can't seem to find an equivalent option on the S3.

If you use a custom launcher (like Nova/Apex/etc), you should have the option of saving your screen layout (backup/restore)

Okay, yes, but I don't want to switch to a custom launcher if I don't have to. So there's no other way with the default launcher?

Mainly because it's my wife's phone, and I'm reluctant to change it, since she likes it the way it is right now. I was just hoping there was a simple(r) way to prevent the kids from accidentally messing up the layout and stuff. I may look into a kid's mode app instead.
