How to Save Photos

I am a novice at these things but I am worried that all the photos stored on my LG G3 phone will be lost if my phone breaks or gets stolen. I was told that all my photos automatically are stored in a cloud or something, if true, how are the photos retrieved in case of loss or theft? I had stored all my photos on my old Acer laptop but it suddenly broke so now I have no back-up. How can I be sure my photos can be retrieved? Thanks.

post them to facebook under private...then make the ones you want public..well public
