Help How to set a static address on Nexus 7?

I am attempting to do this to reduce instances of the 'Obtaining IP address...' problem.

All the posts that I have found don't refer to the Nexus 7. The closest possibility, the route from Settings to WiFi to 'Advanced' showed no static/DHCP options.

My 7 is not yet rooted, but surely this isn't needed is it?

When you go to settings - wifi, there's a plus in the upper right to add a network, if you add your wireless network name and tick 'advanced' you have the option of DHCP or static :)
