Well, there are several data manager apps available over the web, which will help you out in setting the data limit. Just try searching for the app named "Data Manager" or there's is also an internal function available over Android which allows doing, for that head over the Settings>Data Usage>Tick the Set mobile data Limit> now in the graph move the red and yellow slider according to the way you want Yellow Line would me the time you get a warning the you are reaching your monthly limit and Red Line will be the place where your device will terminate the data connection.
Hi John
Thanks a lot for your kind reply but unfortunately the option data usage is not appearing. Could you please advise on this pls.

It looks like it's not there on the Gionee.

That's where it should be, this is my Oppo, which is another Chinese phone.

And that's what Data Monitor looks like on the Oppo.

What can do about it, I'm not sure. There's no custom ROMs for the Gionee M2 AFAIK. Thing with many of these Chinese phones, as that the Android on them is frequently heavily modified from what Google releases.

thanks again for the above and I am little bit confused why this is happening where Android should be universal, Anyhow I am trying to be in touch with GIONEE service centre.

Android is open source, Google makes Android but device manufacturers can make changes to it, modifying, adding and removing features. Which is unlike say Apple iOS, where only Apple makes iPhones and iPads, or Windows Phone, where only Microsoft can modify it, and so the firmware on all Win Phone devices is very much the same. Chinese manufacturers in particular, like Gionee, Oppo, Meizu, Vivo, Koobee, etc. can and do make some very heavy changes and modifications to Android. In fact Gionee doesn't even call it Android on their phones, it's "Amigo OS", and many Chinese manufacturers do likewise. If you want Android exactly as Google intended, then you have to have a Nexus phone, or maybe a popular phone that can easily load a custom AOSP firmware, like Samsung Galaxy S4.

Anyhow I am trying to be in touch with GIONEE service centre.

Good idea I think. I consider a data monitor to be a very important function, especially if you're on a metered or limited data plan. There's probably an app you can install that monitors data usage, but can't recommend anything in particular.

Gionee sells in emerging markets, like China, India, Pakistan, etc. Not in the US, Canada or EU.
