Help How to set date in upper left corner?

Hi people:

I have an Evo (unrooted) and I'm trying to either add the date in the upper left hand corner next to the time (to the strip at the very top of the phone - I don't know the technical name), or to replace the time with the date. I'd like to be able to take a look at my phone and see the date without having to have a widget on the home screen.

Any answers?

Don't need a widget, just pull the notification bar down a half inch.

*Edit, Actually it shows if you even touch up there. Don't have to drag down at all.
