How to setup push email for stock app?

Kepano401

Hey guys! Coming from the ios, there was an option to have emails pushed to my phone. How can I set this up with the S3? Closest option I see is every 5 mins. Any help will make my day! Thanks!

Oh, I have 2 email accounts(yahoo and school).

The stock client doesn't push yahoo. The only two clients that do do that are maildroid and the official yahoo mail app.
As for School - never heard of it.

I am writing this because I want to help all these people who want to have push email when using the stock Email application on Galaxy S3 and other Android phones. I used to have a Blackberry and I find it extremely easy to use the push email option.

It is really extremely easy. This is the step-by-step process:

1. Go to phone Settings.

2. Go to Accounts and Synch.

3. Select Add Account.

4. On the screen that shows up, select Email.

5. On the next screen write your email account (eg. johndoe@gmail.com) and your password.

6. Click on Manual Setup (DO NOT CLICK ON NEXT).

7. On the next screen choose Microsoft Exchange Active Synch (yes, this is the correct one, do not be surprized!).

8. On the field Domain\user name, make sure that you have your complete email address, preceded by a \ (ie. \johndoe@gmail.com).

9. Your password should also be entered (it is done automatically, but if it is not, add it yourself).

10. In the field Exchange Server use m.google.com (check with other email providers what you shoud use - I use a gmail based email service (gmail apps) so I can not help you here, but I am sure that it is easy to find out).

11. Check Use Secure Connection and uncheck Use Client Certificate.

12. Click Next and OK if an information box pops up.

13. Change the Account options as desired and click Next.

You are all set. It works like a charm for Gmail accounts, you should make sure it works also for other services / email providers.

Good luck!

Does this work with yahoo email?

Am following up -- yahoo came out with new App today. Does this Yahoo App have push-email similar to blackberry? I'm trying to avoid creating gmail account. Thank you in advance.

Theoretically it does. But I played with it for a day and after a bunch of hours it stopped pushing mail. Would only receive when pulling down to refresh. Might be a bug that will be solved in the next version. I'm still going to stick with Maildroid for now, but if Yahoo get this resolved, they've actually made a decent mailapp.
