how to stop screen timeout from reverting back to 30 secs

anyone familiar with this problem? is it common? I keep having to reset this under "display" to 2 minutes, and I believe it has something to do with the fact that I think it first goes into energy saving mode and somehow the default
setting takes on the power saving setting.

I have Android 2.3.5, bombaridier kernal 2.6.35.11

If anyone has any ideas thanks.
