Root [1st Gen] [How To] Successfully Install Swype - Root Required

I tried to install it using the installer. It sends me to a screen with two buttons. "Enable Swype" and "Select Swype". The "Select Swype" button is unavailable. The on-screen directions say :Licensing complete, almost done! Now enable Swype - Press "Enable Swype" and 1) check the box next to Swype then, 2) hit the BACK button to return and "Select Swype".

Also, when I try to install directly from the apk file, it says that installation not complete.

I tried doing what it says, but no matter what I do, I can't get the "Select Swype" button to be available.

Can someone just email me the Swype apk file? It'd be greatly appreciated.

Are you moving the Swype file (step 5) before you're trying to select Swype? You won't be able to select until you get to step 9. Be sure you're following the instruction exactly how they're posted or it won't work.

I have a rooted kindle fire. I followed the instructions but now get a message saying "the swype package you installed does not match the screen size of the device. Please contact Swype. Screen size 1020x600" I now don't get any keyboard. Please help.

I can change the keyboard using the input method after I went into a couple of different sights and using search. I would like to delete this version of swype and install the right one, but since I deleted the one I installed, I will need some help.

My Kindle was rooted but Super User wasn't installed. I installed the SU and rebooted. I was able to follow the directions once my Kindle granted me access to all of the hidden files.

This was a great tip..thank you!
It is a little tricky, since you have to download twice from Swype, but it does work!

I am Swyping now and love it so much more than the slow kindle fire keyboard'
Thanks..so
Also great thanks to @gdude for your extra comments they made me understand better and keep trying!
It worked!
Thanks to all :~)

Here's how I got Swype installed and working on my Kindle Fire: You will need to be rooted to do this.

1) Download the installer from your beta email or transfer it from one of your other devices (If you get an error saying "Sorry! This is not an Android Phone..." make sure your browser is set to mobile view and not desktop.)

2) Log in

3) Select your Beta version

4) Install the Swype keyboard

5) Use Root Explorer and navigate to /data/apps and find the Swype apk

6) Move the Swype apk (not the installer) to /system/apps

7) Make sure permissions are rw- r-- r--

8) Reboot your device

9) Long press on a text field, select input method, then Swype

10)When you use Swype it will constantly Force Close

11)Go back into system/app and press install on the swype apk file that you placed there

12)Then delete the same apk from system/app and reboot.

That's it, Swype should work after that without any FC issues. To minimize the keyboard swype from the Swype key to the backspace key.

Thank you! on my Kindle (6.3) I have to hold down the Swype Key then click the Kindle House/home button.

Great instructions, thanks so much for putting this up.

Had a question about minimizing the keyboard? Hitting the backspace/delete button only deletes and long press on it just does the usually delete whole word.

Is there something I'm doing wrong???

Thanks again!!!

You need to touch the Swype key (the orange-ish "s") and then swype from there to the backspace key.

Thank you! Swype came pre-installed on my Samsung Galaxy S and I quickly came to appreciate the cursor keys. This should be standard on any computing device. A big oversight on the part of Android.

So when I got my Fire I was more than a little annoyed when I could not even install Swype. It's three days old and I already had to root it to make it usable! Even then I had to find these instructions to make it work. The part about running it to get the repeated force closes seems bizarre. How did you ever figure that out?

I read the many comments to your post. I want to install Swype on my KF, using your guide. I have the following: a rooted KF, TWRP, Android Market and ES file explorer. I don't have ICS. Will Swipe work on my KF? I wanted to clarify since I read somewhere that it will need ICS for installing Swype.
Please let me know if I need to have anything more installed.

This will work fine with the stock Kindle Fire software.

Recently rooted my Fire so I could install Swype. Signed up for Beta. Got Swype Installer running. Put in correct login credentials. Selected Beta to install. Every time I try I get a parse error. Did some searching... Official Swype answer appears to be "delete/uninstall all swype-related apks and try again." This does not work for me. I also tried downloading with Firefox instead of Silk. Neither works. Anyone find a work-around for the "package parse" error?

According to Swype, the parsing error has been fixed on their end, as of today. I'm going to try downloading and installing it on my Kindle Fire tonight!

Update: I was able to get Swype installed, so I tried Airmaxx23's method for getting Swype working on my Fire. Sure enough, it worked! :D Thanks, Airmaxx!

Just wanted to throw my experience in here. Been a Swype Beta user for a few years now, what a great tool. Recently returned to the states from deployment, and I picked up a Droid RAZR MAXX. Rooted, went through the usual uninstall of the bloat and re-installed Swype Beta. First reboot and I got the constant Swype FC loop. Just found this thread today, and I wanted to say thank you for the clear concise instructions. My Swype is back up and running 100%, no more FCs. Thank you again for your help!

ahhhhh.....so much nicer with Swype installed. Can't stand the one key at a time typing chit. ;) Course, it helps to not constantly skip step 11. LOL

The new Swype beta is awesome, and the key, which is totally strange is the advice to delete it from /system/apps. This worked beautifully on a rooted tablet.

I wanted to install swype beta on my kindle fire so I asked my husband to root my fire today. All that said and done, installed swype thanks to this thread! Making the fire more and more like a tablet :-)
