Help how to sync gmail account on rooted working g1 through wifi (via terminal)

I've successfully rooted my g1 with the super-D rom and skipped the initial gmail logg in because I do not have a data plan.
I then connected the g1 to wifi, and it works. I am able to browse the web.
but I still can't sign into gmail, it appears to try to use data regardless of the available wifi.
it there anything I can type into the terminal to make it use wifi rather than data?
I can't get adb to work, and basically I need to do this: [How To] Activation over Wifi - Android and G1 Forums, Mods, Hacks, News, Downloads, Skins, Themes, and more! | ModMyGphone
so I figure there's a way to do that straight from the terminal.
how would I do that from the phones terminal?

I got it working now.
Anyone else expierienceing this problem only needs to keep trying over and over again untill it finally works
