How to take Android tablet back to factory settings?

Just in case, I picked up some malicious software, how do I reset the device so that it's 'back to factory settings?' If I hit the reset button, does this mean it's completely wiped?

How can I check if there are any malicious software later?

I only want to get my apps from the 'Amazon AppStore'. Is this a completely safe place to buy apps? i.e no malicious software?

This is the device: Unisurf - 10.1" Android Tablet

Thanks!

It should be in Settings, Backup And Reset.
No app market is completely safe but i think Amazon is pretty trustworthy

Android 4.4 probably isnt available for that tab unless theres a 4.4 custom rom.
You can check for updates in Settings, About Device but its up to the manufacturer to make updates. This is why it can be best to stick to big brands.
Once you factory reset it it will be exactly how it was out of the box. All apps, data, pics etc will be gone

Alright, thanks. I don't really need the update because I just want to read PDF files anyway.

Is there a way I can completely wipe the device so that it doesn't have the 1mobilemarket installed?

technically there could be but thats the chance everyone takes. Personally i wouldnt worry so much.
Rooting makes you more vunerable because apps with root access can get right into the system and do anything they like.
Im rooted though and dont worry about anything.
The only thing you have to be careful with (imo) is things like online banking sites/apps

Alright, thank you sir! I hope you get a promotion on here.

Is it necessary to run an anti-virus app for it if I only use the Amazon AppStore? There's no real risk for me to use the Amazon AppStore because Amazon is a safe company, right?

After the reset theres nothing left there at all so theres no malware.
Personally i dont use an antivirus app because i dont think theyre needed. The way android works, you cant really get a virus. Its far safer than a windows PC.
I use an app called Appbrain Ad Detector which warns me when i download anything with ads or potentially harmfull permissions. I dont know if its on amazon

I wiped the device twice by going into 'Settings'. There's also a button the right side of the device that says 'Reset' with a very tiny hole. Is there a difference between which Reset method I use?

Ive no idea tbh. Ive never had a device with that but id guess it either does the same thing or forces a reboot. Try it. Theres nothing to lose

There's also an option for me to get into recovery mode and alter the partitions, but I don't want to do this in case I mess it up and can't even use the device.

If I did alter the partitions and all the data gets destroyed on the device, what would I need to do to get it back to 'factory settings'? I couldn't see an answer on the unisurf website.

Just dont mess with partitions :D
Im a semi-advanced android user and i wouldnt attempt that unless i really had to :)
You could really mess the tab up

If one goes messing this one up, it may not be recoverable at all. Looks like Unisurf are just an importer in Australia. There's nothing technical on their site at all, like downloadable ROM and recovery software. If anything is defective under warranty, they'd just replace or refund, and send the duds back to China for credit.

Alright, thanks guys. I'm really happy that I didn't mess with the partitions!

Hey guys, I want to give this Android tablet away as a gift to a friend.

I was doing some work related that contained personal information that I want to erase.

Also, I created a password on the device some time ago and I can't remember it.

What's the best way for me to erase this Android tablet completely so that there's no trace of any data on it?

It still doesn't look like there's any firmware ROM image for this device or any other way of resetting it, and it has been 3 years. And I suspect the whatever Shenzhen operation that originally put it together has moved on to some other fad, like Android watches, Bluetooth karaoke microphones, or some other cheapo tech products.
