How To Tell If You've Gotten The Update

I've been having a lower than normal network signal today (I have a TMO tower on my roof), so I was just fooling around with network selection to see if I could get an AT&T signal. Well even after switching back to TMO, the signal was still low. But one thing was interesting, it flashed on the screen that the phone had registered on the TMO network. Registering used to be a huge deal in the Blackberry world, that is why I realized it. I powered off, then back on, and still not my normal signal. But without network connections, I turned on wifi to get Spare Parts to tweek some settings. As I was searching the market, the straight arrows appeared (and Device Management showed up in the notification bar as the name of the task). But then they disappeared. :( Now it looks like a general network outage.

it sounds like you guys have figured it out but if you dial *#9999# you will get your phone info or baseband. if you have T939UVJA3 as your baseband then you have the bug fix. If you have T939UVIJ6 for the baseband then you do not have the update. You need to keep the battery power above 50% in order to receive the update. There really is no info on the IMEI having to be updated in T-Mobile's system but I would do it just in case. I am a t-mobile rep and have the bh2 and like you, I am still waiting for the upgrade and becoming very frustrated because it should of all ready happened and I don't have any more information on it and Im tired of the Sd card mounting and un mounting! lol But if you guys have any questions I can answer that won't get me in trouble i'll be glad to help. I ain't all tech savvy like you guys but I'll help with any info I can.

Hi all new to the forum,

Last Friday night my phone started acting crazy it would completly lock up, the screen went black and it vibrated constantly it I removed the battery. Did this twice in an hour so I called TMO the tech said they had documentation on this problem and sent me an OTA update with the red and blue arrows you are all describing. After the update I ended up with the waldo game as described earlier in the thread. When I do *#9999# here is what I have.

PDA: T939****3
PHONE: T939****3
FTA SW VERSION: T939.006

When I was on the phone with her she was more concerned about the first two lines ending in three (they didn't before the update) than any of the other numbers. Not sure if this will help anyone but thought I would share maybe you can use my situation above to call tech support and get the update!

BTW after the update things run much better except when the lock key is pushed the screen flashes and looks like snow on a blank TV screen then shows the desktop.

Hope this helps!

Yea I've seen the static too, btw the PDA/PHONE is just the baseband number, which changed from the update. Interesting that they were able to push the update to your phone like that.

ya I called twice, and explained my situation, no update for me!
Maybe that guy just has crazy luck!

I was suprised to they must have a lot of control over our phones she knew when it was on/off and when the update was downloading and finsihed. I had no control accept to ok the inital download after that it was done automatically. Not sure why she cared about the first two lines so much then.

Again it all goes to the Device Management app this phone has, its what does the update, and yea probably allows other control over the phone.

She cared about those numbers as the update would change those numbers meaning, your phone is updated.

More then likely this rep was a higher tier, not the regular rep one first reaches.

its funny how they fix bugs only to give us new ones, LMAO:p

Okay I just got off the phone with tech support I explained that I have done everything to my phone possible short of a master reset and tech decided to do a warranty exchange on my phone. If you have not received the update yet and you have updated your IMEI and have given it 2 days to provision then i would definitely advise you to call tech and see what they can do for you. I also would try to do a master reset on the phone. I don't know what difference it would make but it doesn't hurt to try just make sure you back up everything before you do. Even though I am getting an exchange i'm still doing the master reset anyways to see if it makes a difference. So far after the reset nothing has happened but I will wait 12 hours for provisioning to make sure. Just thought I would share that with you maybe it will help. Also make sure you talk to android/pda tech and not regular tech..........trust me you wil get better results with them!

I just got the update a few minutes ago. Waldo and Bowling are there. It is too soon to notice if there are any significant changes to functionality or if there are remedies. I am hoping for the best but it will have to wait until I can put the phone through its paces tomorrow.

The diagonal Blue and Red arrows showed up on the left side of my Notification Bar (rather than the curved ones to the right of my Bluetooth emblem that I had noticed before). I was asked if I wanted to do the update etc. The process took about 10 mins and rebooted.

I had been told that the Tmobile logo was no longer there but the pink is still there. The Behold II is still there but there is now a Samsung splash screen added to the mix.

The software version is still .006
The PDA/PHONE field updated

I should add that I rarely get 3G inside most of my home. I had the phone placed where it received the 3G signal. The arrows showed up and the update began immediately. My phone was plugged in at the time as well.

no the tmobile boot logo is suppose to be there, the only thing that changed is the android logo is now the samsung one as we have seen from the galaxy!

so it didn't give you a 5 second reboot warning?

LOL - I guess it figured I had been so frustrated with it that it had better be polite (j/k), so yes, it gave me the warning :)

I am amazed that it all went so fast. It couldn't have taken more than 10 minutes total. But in case anyone wants to clarify, it was definitely in 3G mode and not Edge, when this finally happened.

I got the update last night. The only feature I notice that has changed so far, which is somewhat inconvenient, is that when i press the round circular button underneath the Samsung logo, the phone does not come out of sleep mode. I used to press this just for a quick glance at the time, with having to unlock the phone, but now just to see what time it is I have to press the unlock button.

I only ask because same was done for mine but when it booted back up there was no update.

oic. No, I got all the warnings. It starts by asking if you want the update or to postpone. The next warning was about the reboot process and then a message popped up that it was rebooting after a couple of passes on the uploading status bar (across the bottom of the screen) had gone by. But again, it was in 3G mode when this took place and when it finished, it went back to Edge. - That seemed to me to be a determining factor...3G.

If you got an update this is how it will look like from settings->about phone

Baseband Version: T939UVJA3

Kernel Version:
2.6.27
root@sep-36#1
Sat Jan 16 21:15:14 KST 2010

Build Number:
76XXCSDCBALUM6375

I see SAMSUNG logo during boot, wheresvaldo app loaded as well.

Heh no one reads around here. I noted all the changes I found in another post. This is one of them. To wake the screen, hit either the end call button or the cube button.

I did not get my update until my phone went into 3G mode. I am convinced that this along with the battery issue are the determining factors. My phone was plugged into the wall vs the computer. I got the aborted attempt in Edge. As soon as the phone went into 3G, the message popped up that I had an update waiting.

(For newbies) Why I believe 3G to be a determining factor: Speed. T-Mobile takes entire 3G network to 7.2Mbps -- Engadget

I hear ya on the reading part, I actually did read before posting, but I didnt read all 500 threads people have created about this update. Hopefully a forum admin can start closing some of them or migrate them into one thread
