How to transfer apps?

ivanbin

Newbie
I have got a new phone, and I want to transfer one app in particular over from my old one. One problem: The app is a paid one, and its not longer in the play store.

Can anyone help?

Or possibly suggest an app that allows to browse the web, and download most any type of video found, all while having a handy popup blocker.

I just did stuff like that with AppMonster Pro, well worth the $3.26.

It creates APKs of everything installed on your old droid and stores them on the SD card, assuming you use one. Just mount the card in the new droid, install AppMonster fresh from the store and launch it. Then choose to see the backups, select Not Installed, then Install Selected.

However, if your old droid is already decommissioned, this can’t help.

Thats the thing. Before, I tried finding the .apk file and just transferring it and installing but it didnt work fully.

Here's what happened: The app comes in 2 parts, the main app and "plugins" for the app that allow it to download more video formats. Like i thnk .mp4 is supported by main app but .flv is supported by paid plugin (.99 cents)
The said plugin refused to work when just transferred over as an apk file. It probably somehow knew that it was not "paid" for a second time. I'd LOVE to pay for it, but its not in the app store.

So is there any way to scrub it from one phone, and transfer the "licence" (or w/e it is it uses to verify the phone its on) to the new phone?

The app may not be available on the Play store on your new phone because it is not compatible with the phone. If so, manually transferring the app may not work and could even cause problems.

The free route is to use ES File Explorer to get an .apk:

--> Tools
--> App Manager
--> User Apps are displayed (if it doesn't say User Apps at the top, click on the top center and select User Apps)
--> long press on the app, it gets selected via check box
--> press Backup on the bottom.

Locate the file (mine gets stored at sdcard0/backups/apps).
Use your transfer method of choice to get it on your PC, e.g., USB, or AirDroid (pull from PC), or WiFi File Explorer (pull), or Tonido (push from Android), or ...
Use your transfer method of choice to move it to your new phone.
Voila.

This and similar techniques are used regularly by Kindle Fire (and Coby and ZiiO and other lower tier tablets) owners to get Play Store apps onto their tablets.

[EDIT: Oops, I didn't read carefully enough. You have backed up the .apk and transferred it, but have a plugin issue. Apologies, but I'll leave this post for the .apk transfer info.]

All I can think of is to transfer the apk of that app from your old phone to your new one. Then, just run the installer and you are done!

The app is called MegaPlayer.

And after some tinkering i have managed to make the .apk's to work.

Now, I hope you can help me with a slightly more complex thing with the app.
Since its no longer in the store, it obviously wont update. The look and some functions are different on my new phone, and I suspect its because it cant update.

Is there any way to transfer the updates and such from my old phone, and patch the app on the new phone?

Is this app in other stores?

I think you downloaded an apk of the older version. You need to find an apk of the newer version. Try contacting the developer?

Make an apk of the latest version of the app on your old phone using Lucky Patcher or anything else.

You can also contact the developer of the app to send you the apk.
