How to turn on and off LTE

Thanks to Nickrussel I found this out.

First download the app any cut. Go to your home screen and make a short cut. Obviously choose any cut, and then choose activity. Then look for LTE Functionality test. Then click it when its on the home screen. Notice at the top the two options OMG this is amazing! I tested it to in an LTE area, and it stayed on x1 instead of going to LTE. I'll do more testing, but so far we have a way to turn it on and off!! Again great find thanks to Nickrussel, awesome app find man!
 
Sure. I've stumbled upon any cut and those no-root tethering apps (just started a new thread on the no-root tethering) while searching for where android stores the ssid/wpa wpa settings... I wish there was a way of copying everything from NAND to a folder on PC for further exploration. With the temp-root that we can now do, doesn't sound like an impossible task... Any ideas?
 
I'm not sure on the commands on how to do that, but there's a way to with ADB have the phone dump all files to your computer from the phone.
 
lol i found a thing under activity says "change sim pin" lol stupid ass metro kept repeating "THIS IS NOT A SIM CARD" lies, i swear fracking lies.
 
Yeah but they kept telling me at every corporate meeting not to "refer" to it as one. Claimed it was called a IMEI card or some shit. But ya I knew it was one, and this proves it lol.
 
Wow i'm finding tons of stuff under any cut, developer stuff that i'm not supposed to know. Like cell broadcast SMS lol.
 
Still though any cut found more stuff then spare parts. Woah docking settings lol. Found another thing called Device Administrator, its empty though.
 
K found yet another item that's called GSM/UMTS options. Has use only 2G networks on it, but its greyed out. As in the had it on the phone, but yet hide it from users, what bs. And its still unusable cause its greyed out. Unfortunately my first idea with the LTE development short cut works, but not as well. Like if you disable LTE it'll "disable" it at the point in time, but I think there's a setting somewhere that forces it to keep searching. Yah the stupid feature which kills are battery. So far I found no way to perm disable it. So almost like end tasking stuff, that's how i'm using the LTE testing thing right now.

When I called metro and asked for data support center, those guys then redirected me to their metro smartphone techs. The problem I was calling with was the inability to talk and surf at the same time. The tech called me back and gave me my SPC code without my even asking. Once I got into the menu, they had me change the home SID #. Too bad, it didn't help any :(

There is an app in the android market named "MEID Converter"
You enter your phones IMEID number and it calculates the MetroPCS SPC


Man, what a differance with LTE turned off. The phone can actualy last the entire work day without being charged.

Took the phone off charger at 6:30AM when I set off for work.
I sent a few text messages, browsed a few websites, Downloaded a new app, Had a 1 hour phone conference.

It's now 3:06PM and I have 40% of the battery left.
 
i had a fully charged phone at 6am, then went to work surfing 4g til 10am phone died bout 10:30 just did this shortcut and gonna try it out tomorrow with another full charge :) with 4g off
 
So you trying the LTE functionality? Again I noticed the only problem is when I start doing data after the LTE is off, it starts to try and connect again. Of course I can force it to disconnect again, but still there must be another app that makes it constantly scan. That scanning is what's killing my battery.

Also i mentioned the GSM/UMTS mode, and no matter what its greyed out. I thought maybe when its in LTE mode it'd allow me to turn off 4G, but it won't. That seriously angers me that it exists on the phone and even says (to save battery enable this), and yet its not an option. I'm guessing this is Metro's doing. I bet they figured "less battery for 4G = less time on 4G = more bandwidth = more money". Also they figure they can force us to buy a spare battery, car charger and whatnot.

Another thing I noticed was the Administrator now under my options. I could have sworn i didn't see it before it was under location/security > select device administrator. After I click it it says no device administrators available.

Mike: when you were browsing, did you turn LTE back on for just that and then off again, or were you browsing on 1x?
