Help How to turnoff e-mail notification alert

The new phone is great, but being alerted you have an unimportant e-mail at 3am is not. I found the option for LED notifications, letting you select each app, but when I looked for audible notifcations it gives me the option to select the sound and adjust the volume (in another tab). So, I turned the volume down for akk notifications for a quick fix, but now I cannot hear SMS alerts. It seems to be all or nothing. Any suggestions?

So you want SMS alerts @ 3am but not e-mail?
Gmail client or pop/imap/exchange client?

It's G-Mail. And yes, SMS alert from friends or family at 3am is much better than an e-mail alert telling me I a have a coupon from Borders.

Seems to me that if you press the menu button while in your GMail inbox, you can change vibration, ring, and LED notifications?

That was it! I was trying to change it through the regular android settings and not through Gmail's. Thanks.
