Help How to uninstall News, Social Networking, Skype etc...

Cumby

Newbie
I have removed the News, Weather and Social Networking apps from my phone in hope of improving battery function. Even though I uninstalled the app (or maybe it was just a shortcut?) for these, every time I reboot my Droid, the services are still under running services. I am unable to remove them. Is it possible to remove the following: Social Networking, Weather, News Retrieval Service, and Skype? If these are not removable, and they run every time I restart, why wouldn't I use a task killer to stop these services. I know the X is supposed to manage itself, but these have to be using up my battery when they are constantly running?

You cannot uninstall them in stock mode. You have to root your phone and then rename the apps from .apk to .bak using Root Explorer or a terminal emulator. Before you do any of this, I suggest reading up on root IN DETAIL to familiarize yourself with it. It's not hard, but you can ruin/brick your phone if you are not careful.
