Help How to unlock samsung captivate I897

First of all, I would just like to say that I am new to this forum and I apologize in anticipation if I am posting this information under the wrong category. I have done my best to read the rules before posting. Anyway here goes. I am quite desperate because I cannot use my phone as I should. I bought an Samsung Galaxy S Captivate I897 from A&T 9 months ago in Puerto Rico. I upgraded the OS to 2.2 whit Odin3. Now, after going to the store to unlock the phone to change to another carrier, none of the unlock codes work! I go to different store with the same result. . I don't know much about phones, but this is driving me crazy, and I would really really appreciate any feedback or suggestion here from someone more experienced.

this is my way:
1. use "GalaxyS_Captivate_One-Click_Root" to root your cellphone
GalaxyS_Captivate_One-Click_Root.rar - Windows Live
2. search "galaxy_s unlock" in market and install it
3. run "galaxy_s unlock" and get your unlock code and unfreeze code
4. input unlock code when you start your cellphone wiht non-att sim
5. if you want to unroot your cellphone, use "GalaxyS_Captivate_One-Click_Root" again
it works on my android 2.1 captivate, i'm not sure if it will help you.
