Root How to update drivers for Droid X

I'm sure this has been talked about already in this forum, I apologize for possibly beating a dead horse. Here's my issue, I'm trying to root my buddy's droid x and can't update the drivers. Can someone break it down for me step by step, I can figure everything else out. I have a windows XP btw. Thanks in advance.
