How to update google maps?

I am still running v6.3 and I believe it's well into the 7s at this stage. But when I try to update google play says aleady installed.

So. How do I update to later versions, please?

Thanks for the reply.

So I am stuck with whatever came with the machine? All I read about newer versions is no good to me at all?

What android version are you running?

Yes, you may well be stuck. But later versions aren't always better. TBH there are still some things which work better in 6.3 than 7.2, and certainly better than earlier Maps 7.

Thanks for chipping in, Hadron.

Using Android 4.0.3. On a Samsung 5110 G2 Tab.

What I really was after was the ability to add multiple destinations to plane a multi stage trip. I can do it using the browser version (Firefox) but it can gety very sluggish when there is that extra layer of translation.

You might have a look at the app 'BestRoute', it could be used for a multi stage trip with every version of Google Maps :)

Betstoute has some apparent problems.

(1) I can set multiple places, but if I ask to navigate, I only see the first one
(2) If I ask for a route between two places that are not my location, then Navigation will always revert to my location anyway.
(3) If I exit navigation, I am dropped back to vanilla maps, not bestroute
(4) There is nowhere to select a location on the screen by simply touching, then using that as one of my locations

I have emailed the developer about this, but feel free yto jump in if I am wrong, mor if there is a workaround.

I think, that's the way BestRoute works, just using Maps Navigation for to navigate between two waypoints of a multi waypoints route and therefore starting off the actual location.

If you want more control you might think about an offline turn-by-turn car navigation app like Navigon, CoPilot or Sygic.
I use Navigon (a Garmin company) which let my insert waypoint in a route by long press on the map. The two other mentioned apps should have this ability too.
Sygic offers a free 7-days-trial version ... so you might have look at it.

The only trouble is I have tried 3 standalone systems and none did as well as Maps for giving me the best route and one triedmto drive me down a boat ramp and into a river.....all of these were well known systems, so when I found Maps I gave up looking.

The author of bestroute has replied and explained that as I reach each waypoint, it will start from there onto the next stage. I will have to try that out on the road. Also he said that you Can touch to add a location and when I did if as he said, it worked. So still worth further looks.
